The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction is scheduled for December 15 in Bengaluru, with five franchises set to strengthen their squads using an increased budget of ₹15 crore, up from ₹13.5 crore last year.

The WPL 2025 auction will feature top international stars like Heather Knight, Lea Tahuhu, and Deandra Dottin, alongside prominent Indian players such as Sneh Rana, Poonam Yadav, and Veda Krishnamurthy, who are expected to attract significant bids.

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) Player Auction List has been announced, with the auction scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on December 15. A total of 120 players will be part of the auction, including 91 Indian and 29 overseas players, three of whom are from Associate Nations. The list features 82 uncapped Indian players and 8 uncapped overseas players. Teams have 19 slots to fill during the auction, with 5 slots reserved for overseas players.

Top players listed at the highest reserve price of INR 50 lakh (around US$60,000) include Deandra Dottin, Heather Knight (released by Royal Challengers Bangalore), and Lizelle Lee. Among Indian players, notable names are Sneh Rana (released by Gujarat Giants), Poonam Yadav (released by Delhi Capitals), Shubha Satheesh (released by RCB), Tejal Hasabnis, and Mansi Joshi. Several prominent overseas players are also in the auction, such as England’s Lauren Bell (released by UP Warriorz), Maia Boucher, Sarah Glenn, and Sophia Dunkley, alongside Heather Knight. England has eight players in the auction, second only to Australia’s twelve. Australian cricketers Amanda-Jade Wellington, Alana King, Kim Garth, Laura Harris (released by Delhi Capitals), and Darcie Brown are also in the mix. Garth and South Africa’s Nadine de Klerk, who have prior WPL experience, add further interest to the auction, as noted by ESPNcricinfo.

The five WPL teams have varying vacancies. Delhi Capitals need to fill four slots, including one for an overseas player. Gujarat Giants also have four slots available, with two reserved for overseas players. Mumbai Indians require four players, including one overseas slot, while Royal Challengers Bangalore have four slots but no overseas vacancies. UP Warriorz have three vacancies, including one for an overseas player. Teams can include a seventh overseas player if she hails from an Associate Nation. Among the Associate players registered are Samaira Dharnidharka and Theertha Satish from the UAE and Scotland’s Sarah Bryce. Kathryn Bryce of Scotland, previously with Gujarat Giants, has not registered for this year’s auction.

Franchises like Gujarat Giants, with the largest purse of ₹4.4 crore, aim to rebuild after a disappointing season, while defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (₹3.25 crore) and Delhi Capitals (₹2.5 crore) will focus on refining their squads. With 71 players, including 25 overseas stars, already retained, the auction will play a crucial role in adding fresh talent to complement the teams’ stable cores and prepare them for the upcoming season.
